Out with the Old, In with the New
In memory of a good car. It served me faithfully for 8, almost 9 years, drove me to and from many diverse places, but today I put my poor little sunbird with the broken wing to pasture. Hopefully it will get to run and play with lots of other purple sunbirds, and be happy forever. Maybe even find a new owner who loves it and takes care of it.

I took it home from the mechanic this afternoon, and ran it quickly through a car wash. Of course, it was below freezing out, so the leftover water froze in frosty little mazes all over the hood. But I still took a few pictures of it to remember. (Isn't it a cute little car?? I've always liked it, even if it did hurt me once.) Then I cleaned my stuff out of it, took it to the dealer, kissed it goodbye, and drove home a shiny (well, snow-covered, it's blizzarding out today!) new Chevy Cavelier.

Heh. Well, my car didn't come with ski racks or snow boards. But that's okay, I'm a Skater Grrl anyway.

In the pic of me with my old car, you can see it was just beginning to snow. By the time I picked up the new one, it had a couple of inches of snow on it already....

Yes, it is blue! I never thought I'd want a blue car (really what I wanted was purple again, but nobody makes a purple car anymore), but this Metalic Blue caught my eye, and I'm quite fond of it. Glad you like it. (:

Guess C couldn't convince you to switch from GM to Ford. Have fun driving in the snow!

No, he was sad I didn't buy a Ford....but he was really helpful, even so. I got a really good deal though, almost $5000 off the sticker what with GM discount, tradein, and cash-back incentives!

Re:

Well, you need to put some miles on it, it's only 1,424 miles from Royal Oak to Austin.

Re:

Yikes that's a long drive. 31 miles on the odometer so far!

Re:

Too bad you think it's too far, weather forecast for Austin tomorrow is sunny and 70!

There's something very sad about giving up your old car... saying goodbye to it on the dealer lot as you drive off in your new car. It's a bit like giving your old dog to the vet for the needle and picking up a new puppy...

Oh no! It sounds even worse when you put it that way. It was definitely weird and sad. I'm glad I took some pics, at least.

It was even weirder after I'd said my goodbyes, completed the transactions, and drove home in my new car...the dealer called me. He'd forgotten to switch the plates, in all the snow-confusion. So he drove over to my house to do it...in my old car! There it was in my driveway again, sputtering away, covered in snow, after I'd said what I thought was my Final Goodbye! Too bizarre.

Re:

You know I thought maybe I was over stating my case a bit in a sad way :)

Well, I managed to keep from bawling, but it was very sad even so....!
