Speedskating Nationals
On saturday I drove up to Bay City Michigan for the day, to watch part of the US Speedskating championship competition. It was awesome! I got to see the 1500 meter and the 500 meter qualifying and championship races, both mens and women.

I'll be honest: I don't follow speedskating much, so I didn't recognize most of the skaters out there. But there was some incredible talent, and some mighty fine racing that day. Especially the 500 meter, which is just 4.5 laps around the rink. Very fast, very intense, and very exciting!

The one skater I was familiar with was Apolo Ohno. He was incredible to watch. He won every race he skated in, and he just flew around the ice, completely smooth and graceful. When he would take the corners, he was leaning so far over he was practically horizontal -- touching the ice with only his right-inside edge and his left fingertips.

It was really inspirational to watch!!
