Picnic Caricature
At the company picnic a couple of weeks ago, I got a caricature of me drawn. Somebody snapped this photo while the artist was drawing...kinda neat, eh?

Where's the caricature?

How about a picture of the caricature?

Re: Where's the caricature?

It's on my coffee table. I could scan it I suppose... It's fun, but doesn't really look a whole lot like me. (You can kinda see that already, with my face and the partial-face both in the pic)

meta art

One afternoon last fall I walked to DuPont Circle, where benches form a circle around a fountain. It's a great place to people watch, and there are good bookstores and coffee shops nearby.

After sitting on a bench for awhile, I looked up to see a sketch artist staring at me with charcoal pen in hand. I looked up a few seconds later and saw him drawing, and he looked up me again, so I concluded I was a subject.

About a half hour later, I spied my watercolor teacher Pepe, who also had a sketchpad and was drawing someone else. After awhile I went over to talk with him, and after a few minutes he asked if he could draw me. I said yes and for the next 40 minutes or so he drew me. About half way through, I looked up to see the other artist sitting at a bench nearby, sketching again. This time he was drawing a sketch of Pepe drawing me!

So by my calculation I was drawn three times.

When Pepe was nearly done drawing me, an attractive brunette that Pepe knew stopped by for a chat, and Pepe drew her next. I hung around because she was cute and I was available and feeling social, and she and I ended up having drinks afterwards with friends of hers. We exchanged phone numbers and ended up going out a couple of times, but it didn't go anywhere.

Just a very odd series of events.

Re: meta art

Sounds like a really neat afternoon!

Did you get to look at any of the drawings? Since I have no drawing skills, such things fascinate me.

Re: meta art

Pepe's drawing of me is on my refidgerator. I don't think it looks that much like me but I'm told that if you look at me at the right angle (presumably the angle Pepe was drawing me from), it's a very good likeness.

I took a quick glance at the drawing of him drawing me but I didn't get a very good look at it.

I don't want to see the charicature

You have such a beautiful smile (no really) that I don't want to see that not-accurate charicature smile.

Beautiful smile
