Autumn Cold
Well, I'm definitely getting a cold. Today I'm all stuffy and throat-hurty and achy and whatnot. Yesterday I left work a little bit early, hoping to fight it off by getting some extra rest. Of course, after a few hours of lying on the couch and being good to myself, I had to go skating in a nice cold ice arena. Not quite the best medicine!

Oh well, these things happen. I always seem to get colds in the fall when the weather changes.

Whenever I'm sick, I feel as though I'm walking in a swarm of little germs which cloud around me like gnats. I feel like my hands and breath are contaminated. I don't like to stand too close to anybody for fear of passing it on. I feel like I should be standing by the side of the road calling out, Unclean! Unclean! so nobody will approach.

It certainly makes working in a team environment challenging here at my office. I do things like holding my breath when somebody asks me to look at something on their computer screen. I try not to sit too close to the table at meetings. I don't touch things. Next thing you know I'll be wearing a surgical mask around the office! I know, I know, it's just a Common Cold, but I'd feel guilty if anybody else caught it.

The Penguin-Doctor prescribes much hot tea. Steam makes the germies go 'way.

Or so sez I.

Sounds like a good idea. I had coffee this morning, but some hot afternoon tea sounds lovely. Thank the penguin for me! (:

I'm sorry you're sick. You're good because you're aware that you might spread it, and are trying to take steps to control that. It's always annoying to be in the office with someone who is sick and coughing and hacking all over everything. Bleh.

BTW - I highly recommend peppermint tea during a cold, with a little honey in it. Very soothing, helps open the sinuses.

Thanks. Peppermint, eh? I usually drink lemon tea when I'm sick, but that sounds good too. I'll have to dig through my tea selection tonight.

Oh crumb, I'm sorry... hope I didn't get you sick.

It's okay...I don't know where it came from! Just hope it goes away quickly.

Me too!

Well I am sure I do not know where you got it.

I do that, too. I've joked about it often enough that when I came back to work from my Summer Cold of Doom, my staff had erected portable cube walls around my desk and posted a sign reading "Unclean".

I hope you feel better soon.

Just don't sneeze on people and don't touch their phones and keyboards and you'll be doing your part.

Wow, that's really funny! Always fun to work with people with a sense of humor.

Thanks. (:

I understand what you mean about the gnat cloud! I feel exactly that way and I go around lysoling everything I touch (my mother made me paranoid about germs).

i have had a cold for days, i think i have strep throat now though. because my sore thoat won't go away :(.
renniekins From: renniekins Date: September 17th, 2003 10:37 am (UTC) (Link)
Yuck, that's too bad. See if your doc can get you some antibiotics, that should clear it right up if it's strep.

Autumn Cold

No, you do not have an Autumn Cold, you have a Summer Cold, for the next six days or so.

Re: Autumn Cold

True, or maybe a Late-Summer Cold. If I can drag it out through what, sept 21? 22? , it can be an autumn cold I guess!

Maybe just a Change-Of-Weather Cold would be more accurate.
