A few years ago, I used to have an ice skating practice on wednesdays after work. On those days I would generally bring my skates into the office, because leather gets cold when sitting in sub-zero weather all day, and I like to be able to feel my toes when I skate.

One morning I stepped onto the elevator, my purse over one shoulder, my large skatebag over the other shoulder, wearing boots and a large baggy coat. Another woman on the elevator looked me over and commented, "You look like you're running away from home!"

If I were running away from home, I'd bring ice skates...

and gum, maybe. But that's probably it.

heehee. well, in her defense, she didn't know there were ice skates in there, just that I had a large heavy bag on my back.

However I think gum would be a necessity if you were running away from home.

I used to come into work carrying my fencing gear (the blades get brittle if you leave them in the cold car). You wouldn't believe the stares you get carrying swords into a federal building. :)
