I have the quotes community on my friends list, because I enjoy… - cellophane
the story of an invisible girl

I have the quotes community on my friends list, because I enjoy quotations. Unfortunately, it is polluted with a lot of annoyance: people asking for quotes to match their current life-woes, people who spell the word "you" with insufficient letters, people quoting themselves, garbage like that.

I have nearly removed it several times recently. But every time I'm on the verge of doing so, somebody posts something worth reading. Like this little gem, which made me grin:

I look forward to faster-than-light travel. What I'm not looking forward to is the long wait in the dark once I arrive at my destination.
-- Marc Beland

The one's pretty neat also:

After they had explored all the suns in the universe, and all the planets of all the suns, they realized that there was no other life in the universe, and that they were alone. And they were very happy, because then they knew it was up to them to become all the things that they had imagined they would find.
- Lanford Wilson, Fifth of July.

Those are both very cool quotes, though the second one really impresses me.

Very cool... I think I'll not subscribe to that community, but instead just enjoy the quotes you relay. :)

That's an incorrect attribution for Lanford Wilson's quote, by the way. "The Playgrounds of My Mind *Chapter LXXXV*" is just thefallen83's post title style. (Roman numerals are making a big comeback in 2004, I hear.)

According to http://www.colonie.org/library/stumper.htm, the true attribution is Lanford Wilson's play, Fifth of July.

That was some googley fun tracking that one down!

Good detective work; thanks for the correction! That's what I get for cut-and-pasting.
