Black-eyed peas
So C is from the South, and apparently it is a tradition down there to eat black-eyed peas on New Years Day, which will cause you to have good luck all year. I have spent a lifetime of not eating black-eyed peas on new years day, which means I've had bad luck my whole life. Gads. On the bright side, this is all going to change! Today, yes, this very evening, I enjoyed my first black-eyed pea. Actually, I had several black-eyed peas. So this means good luck, all year! Hooray! I can't wait!

Re:

Super K-Mart! That's where we went, we actually went rushing off at 9pm, because we hadn't had any yet and the day was drawing to a close. C had originally thought he would be okay without them, but we decided we shouldn't chance it. (It's in the Specialty (ethnic) Foods area.) *grin*

oh dear. I don't think my parents will run out now. And it's 11. >.< fug. And I have school tomorrow. double-fug. I'll just have to eat peppermints and hope that helps somehow. Actually, I've been eating peppermints all day, so if they do anything it's gonna happen to me. Spearmints, too.

Black-Eyed Peas

But did you eat any greens? Did he remember to add a dime to the peas?

Doesn't matter 'cause the Ducks beat Colorado, so that's all the luck I need today.

Re: Black-Eyed Peas

Nope, no dime, but that doesn't sound altogether sanitary...

Hm... I've lived in Georgia for 11.5 years and I've never heard that one. I'll have to ask around about that.

I haven't had any today, so I guess I'm screwed this year.

Oh no! Well, I'll let you know if it's worth eating some next year. Although it might take me about a year to find out.

Black-Eyed Peas

According to Jessica Harris, author of "Welcome Table," some add a dime to the peas for an extra "boost" of luck to the recipient. Greens, thought to symbolize folding money, are often eaten eaten with the peas.
