4.07 Miles
Averaged 11.9 mph this time! Sweeeet.... Just a quick ride, since it's late and all. But it was fun, and I'm glad I went. I also went out this evening and bought a pair of Dorky Bike Shorts -- though in fact I didn't wear them tonight since it was to be a short ride. I'm wondering: am I supposed to wear underwear with them? It seems like it would defeat the seam-free purpose, but I'm not accustomed to going without. Still need gloves, to keep my pinky finger from going numb -- that'll be my next shopping trip I suppose. I also want a Dorky Bike Shirt, the kind with thin straps and a built-in bra. So I'll have less-weird tan lines. I guess that's kinda pathetic, but oh well.

WHOO HOO!!

Sounds like a nice short ride or good long walk!!

Well except for the speed thang.. I don't quite walk THAT fast!

What's wrong with weird tan lines? They're ever so much fun to explain at work.. "Well you see I wear this kilt on the weekend, you see..."

>;-D

Bike naked. That'll solve both the seam and tan line problems.

But brings up whole hosts of other problems.

ugh, I'd be jiggling and bouncing all over! Sounds very uncomfortable, and probably not all that fun to watch either. (:

You wear the dorky bike shorts without underwear. You get used to it.

The best gloves for fighting that pinky finger numbness are the ones with gel in them. Look for some that have terrycloth or crochet cotton on the back of the hand, to wipe the sweat from your face, instead of the ones that are all lycra on the back.

Dorky Bike Shorts

They are to improve your circulation while riding right?

Same as the gloves?

Re: Dorky Bike Shorts

The shorts are really about chafing and pressure, not circulation. The gloves aren't about circulation, but nerves. Pressure on the palms can bother several nerves, and causes numbness.

Re: Dorky Bike Shorts

So the pressure is bad but not because it interfers with blood circulation but rather for other reasons?

Okay, that makes sense...thanks!

Seems to me part of the definition of 'Dorky' is that you wear them however they're most comfortable for you. ;)

Part of cycling is the strange tan lines. The real odd one is when you have a tanned spot on the back of your hand from the gloves. (Mine are fullback gloves, so I don't get them.

And, as mentioned, you wear the DBS without underwear. Pretend it's a swimsuit.

I don't mind some weirdness, I'm just going for less-weird. I really dislike the "farmer tan" look. I like to feel the sun on my shoulders!

Do you have a bicycle helmet? If not, I have one you can have if you like. New in box, free.

Actually my mom gave me a nice purple helmet for my birthday. Thanks anyway though!
