Stolen Icon Idea
(Oh my gosh oh my gosh will she ever stop posting??? Sorry, after a week and a half of virtual silence I find words just spilling out of me now. I wrote a gillion (approximate count) delightful posts over the weekend; you should go read them if you haven't yet. There are even pictures!)

I borrowedstole this icon concept from thatguychuck. His posts and comments are almost always accompanied by a giant creepy-but-somehow-fascinating eyeball. He found the image on the web, and he has so far resisted my efforts to make him an icon with his own eyeball.

So yesterday I was looking at some old pictures on my hard drive, and I noticed that my eyes looked particularly large and green in one of them. I thought to myself, "Hey, that would make a neat creepy eyeball icon!" So I made it, and I'm posting with it. I think it's cool, but I'm not sure if it isn't a little too spooky....

Also, there is the other question: is imitation the sincerest form of flattery, or am I just being an annoying copycat? I leave that question up to thatguychuck, who is free to tell me to come up with my own damn icon ideas, thank you very much.

(In other news, my office has decided not to allow access to online email services. I think gmail is included in this, although it is hard to tell since it's not behaving like I'd expect it to. *grumblegrumble* Now I have to rearrange my email forwarding again.)

I think "giant eyeball icons" have been around for a very long time. ;)

for my email, I have changed my primary email account to become nsjavvaji@yahoo.com

and I have yahoo messenger running continously on my work machine, and that notifies me whenever I get new mail.

that's how I get around the whole corporate email filter.

Now I'm confused...

If it's a pic of your eyeball, how can it be described as "giant creepy-but-somehow-fascinating..."?

Giant? Having met ya they both SEEMED normal size...

Creepy? Naw.. it's an eyeball... everyone has them... well most everyone...

Somehow-fascinating? Dang.. ya got me there...

>;-D

What an extraordinarily stupid idea (not your idea!)

That is the dumbest idea I've heard in quite a while. Disallowing access to online email services? Please.

Yes, because it's not like Hotmail does spam-filtering,attachment scanning for viruses, or anything *useful*. Does your own corporate email solution do this? Does it do it well? Or do you use Outlook+Exchange, and live in pure email hell?

Stupid administrators who like to think they are doing something, but are just idiots blundering around making stupid rules, really bug the shit out of me. It's easy to just say "Ban online email!". It's hard to make real security or policy decisions.

I recommend they high a real security company. I could recommend one if you want ;-).

Re: What an extraordinarily stupid idea (not your idea!)

HAHAHA! Get this: I tried this morning setting my comments to go directly to my corporate email (Lotus Notes, incidentally). It's been working, albeit poorly, except it filtered your comment for inappropriate content!!! Just yours, not anybody else's! Apparently they don't like criticism!

It's our new parent company's policy, not ours.

(I'm glad you didn't mean my new icon was extraordinarily stupid.)

Re: What an extraordinarily stupid idea (not your idea!)

My corporate email filters all LJ comments as [SPAM]. I had to turn on an exception in my filter rules so LJ comments we're getting auto-deleted.

I imagine my comment got filtered for saucy language. Well, fuck them.

Lotus Notes? Ugh. Do your computers have hand cranks to start them up too? :-)

Re: What an extraordinarily stupid idea (not your idea!)

Maybe just 'cause you said things like "hotmail", I don't know. Still made me laugh -- talk about censorship!

No, our mice are duel-purpose. Put cheese in front of them, and they start crankin'.

A week and a half ago, my mail.yahoo.com wouldn't function at work and I thought maybe they'd decided to stop web-based mail, but it was back the next monday, apparently they messed a configuration setting change and the guy that knew what to do was off that Friday. Are you going to change your settings when you go home?
renniekins From: renniekins Date: July 12th, 2004 03:58 pm (UTC) (Link)
Well, they actually sent us a memo saying they weren't allowing web-email. I was hoping they'd overlook gmail's beta, but it allowed me to log in then never connected. *sigh* I used Comcast's nasty portal for part of the day, then that stopped working too! Though it's always hard to tell what's permanently off, and what's just temporarily down. Frustrating.

Gee. I thought it was bad having to go to one of the two community internet machines to check my yahoo e-mail. At least I get access!

Seeing as I'm a fan of your eyes, I'm all for your icon. :)

You're cute.

His posts and comments are almost always accompanied by a giant creepy-but-somehow-fascinating eyeball.

But not all. Some have a small creepy-but-terrifying eyeball. < grin >
