Half a Sick Day
I've had a rough couple of days. Not bad, but not really fun either. I mowed my lawn on Sunday, and I did a bunch of stuff in the yard. As per the norm, this meant I was very allergy-plagued on Monday. Lots of sneezing, and lots of nose-blowing and sniffling. By the time I went home Monday night (not until 8:30, because my project is very behind), my throat ached from all the drainage, and my head hurt. Naturally this meant I couldn't sleep well last night; I took a benedryl but if it helped any I didn't notice it.

So I woke up this morning achy and still stuffed up, feeling icky. I decided to use my last Allergra-D that the doc gave me back when I had a sinus infection in March. I also took a vitamin, on the general principle of good health.

I ate a nutrigrain bar along with these pills, but I think it must not have been enough food to combat the drugs in my stomach. I quickly started feeling very nauseous. Let me tell you: I hate nausea! I don't like being any kind of sick of course, but nausea in particular just renders me useless.

So now I was sniffily, headachy, and nauseous. I called my boss and said, "I'm going to be in late." I explained what had happened, and he was understanding. (Though he did warn me that 2 other people on my project weren't in, which means my poor project is even more behind! Oy.)

I crawled onto the couch and turned on the television. I found that if I didn't move at all, my queasiness wasn't as noticeable. The only good thing was that I was quite sure it was medication-related. If I could just make myself stay still long enough for the drugs to be digested, the bad feelings should go away.

So I curled in a ball on my couch for about an hour and a half, only moving once to flip over when my bottom nostril became completely stopped up. Then I finally began to feel better. Hallelujah! I cautiously got off of the couch, and my stomach still felt stable. My nose was still stuffed up, but that hardly mattered anymore.

I got dressed, picked up some real food on the way to work, and worked about 6.5 hours. Not bad, given how non-functional I was this morning! In other good news, my nose is finally starting to open up again, and my allergies are (hopefully) on their way out... at least until I mow my lawn again.

Current Mood: better now

Next time maybe eat the nutrigrain bar a bit BEFORE the drugs and vitamin.

I know my vitamins make me very queasy if I take them before or at the same time I eat something.

Might be worth a try... that way the next time you take a halfday it'll be to play hooky rather than recover from being sick, eh?

That's a good idea, thanks for the input. This is a new vitamin I'm trying. I've noticed it upsetting my stomach a bit before, but never this badly...but then I haven't mixed it before.

Definitely I'd rather not be sick!

Now that it's trendy to be sick, I just want to remind everyone who started it. That'd be me. Aw yeah. :P

Wishing you virtual bowls of chicken soup....

Thankfully, some days end better than others.

Yes, and this day ended very nicely indeed. (:

(Well, except for the fact that it's 1:45am and I'm still unable to sleep...)

Heaven holds a place for those who pray...

feel better and hire a cute, shirtless, boy to mow your lawn for you, on the hottest of those hot summer days...

As others have pointed out, if mowing your lawn makes you lose half a day at work, maybe a lawn services makes economic sense :-).

My grandfather always said to be very good at what you do, and make enough money to pay other people to do the things you can't or don't want to do.

That's a good point, although I think it was really the 2-drug combination without enough food that made me sick, not the lawn-mowing alone.

I like your grandfather's philosophy. It makes a lot of sense.
