Things that make me happy
  • I'm going on a club bike ride tonight -- on a tandem.
  • I downloaded eReader for my Treo a couple of days ago. This means I can read books on my phone! I will always have a book at hand; I will never be bored again.
  • I am going back to Colorado for a Java conference. Yay!!! *dancity dance* My boss waited until the very last minute to approve it, but he did, so I signed up yesterday. (The only bummer is that my geekstress friend and her family are probably not going to be there...sigh.)
  • I emailed the Big Sister people for some information. I think I'm going to try to get myself a little sister.
  • I don't have to work on monday.
  • My LJ friends are so cool. Yes this means you.

I assume you'll be on the back of the tandem. If so, abuse the person in front if they don't warn you about shifts, braking and bumps. They can see, you can't.

If you're the captain, warn the stoker, or you'll get abused. :)

As to Colorado, Very Cool. The most important thing you can bring is Serious Sunscreen. As in SPF 100. 2 miles up means two miles less atmosphere absorbing UV, and you *will* get fried quickly if you aren't protected.

Hat, Jacket, long pants -- bring layers, it can get cold, fast. But, most importantly, sunscreen. Hopefully, they'll give you some time to go explore -- it's incredibly amazing country.

Yep, I'll be on the back. I've ridden with this guy once before, and it went fairly well once I got the hang of it.

Sunscreen, good point! I burn really easily as it is. Thanks for the suggestion.

The conf itself will be pretty busy, but I'm hoping to take a couple of days after to maybe hike or something!

lucky chump ;)

I was in Dillon earlier this feb at copper mntn.
A suggestion for a place to eat is Dam Brewery, in Dillon. Great buffalo burgers. Other great places were the boathouse & main street brewery in Silverthorne.

As for hiking, if you get a chance try RMNP (rocky mntn nat'l park). The snow should be gone entirely and you should be able to drive to the summit. You'll also see plenty of elk, and other critters.

I'm hopin' this isn't just a thread killer like others I've posted to, otherwise I might just lurk back into the shadows ;)

Most of all, have fun for me, looks like my kind of conference from the sound of the website.

Re: lucky chump ;)

Oooh, sounds cool! I know very little about colorado, so I'll have to spend some time seeing what's nearby and what makes sense. I also haven't decided how long I'll stay yet... but no matter what, I' msure I'll have a great time!

Not to mention learn a bunch, also cool. (:

Sorry, I often don't respond to annonymous comments, under the theory that the person probably won't ever see them! I'll be better in the future, now that I know you're looking.

Or you can make yourself an LJ -- one cool thing about it is that it emails responses to your comments back to you, and allows you the option of responding directly from your email.

Anyway YES, I will have fun, thanks! (:

That's cool about the Little Sister!

Rock on with your bad self!

I hope so...I'm pretty excited about the idea. (:

so cool!

you already know how I feel about the Colorado conference :) Don't forget the bathing suit ;)

I've been a Big Sister for over 20 years, and it was one of the best things I've ever done! My "little" is now a young woman, and is on LJ as breezefromwest and is one of the joys of my life, having watched her grow up :)

I highly recommend it! :)

Re: so cool!

Oh yeah! Darn, I hope I can lose this extra weight in time, so I can feel good in a bikini.

That's good to know, thanks. I think it would be really neat to do, and I'm looking forward to hearing back from them.
_goodintentions From: _goodintentions Date: September 1st, 2004 01:11 pm (UTC) (Link)
I would be your little sister :)

hehe.

And books on your phone? That is so rad.
renniekins From: renniekins Date: September 2nd, 2004 07:17 am (UTC) (Link)
You can be my honorary little synchro sister -- yay!

It is so cool having a book right there on my phone. I can read everywehre now.

Computers and Sisters

Why is it computer conferences are usually around the end of October?

Nearly the same weekend as Conclave.

I think you will be a good big sister just remember to eat better around them, ie no more cookies for breakfast!

I have never ever been called cool before.

Re: Computers and Sisters

I'm not adopting her you know. So we probably won't eat breakfast together. Not that I usually eat cookies for breakfast -- if I did it regularly, I'd be way fatter than I am now.

Re: Computers and Sisters

Well you will be a role model again and I think you will be a good and creative one. I realize you have a lifetime of experience at being a big sister.

I emailed the Big Sister people for some information. I think I'm going to try to get myself a little sister.

That's probably the best thing I've heard all day. Heck, that may be the best thing I've heard anyone say all year. Seriously.

Congratulations on being willing to give of yourself and help another human to achieve their full potential. :)

Aww....thank you! *hug* I'm excited about it.

Welcome to a library in your pocket.

Fictionwise.com is an excellent source of low-cost stories for your Treo. I recommend Fruitcake Theory and Think Like a Dinosaur by James Patrick Kelly. Be warned that the little micropays add up faster than the shopper perceives. Insinuously addictive and worth every penny. Also, visit www.craphound.com for absolutely free Palm-OS format novels of the highest caliber from Penguicon's upcoming guest of honor, Cory Doctorow. Or ask me to infrared them to you the next time you see me.

Re: Welcome to a library in your pocket.

Cooool, thanks for the recommendations. I have a few books already, but I'm sure soon I'll be scouring the net for good reads. This is great!

Serendipity ?

Wait. Were you on Normandy east of Coolidge in R.O. around 8:00 P.M. ? Just passing under a train bridge, going past some golf courses ?

I think I saw you :) Remember seeing a bald guy this evening ? ::lol::
matt_arnold From: matt_arnold Date: September 2nd, 2004 07:09 am (UTC) (Link)

Re: Serendipity ?

I live just east of Coolidge on Nine Mile in Oak Park, but I never went on Normandy yesterday, and I got home before 8. It's funny that I was so nearby at the time when you saw a different person who looked like me.

Re: Serendipity ?

Yep. You had me wondering for most of the day if I'd needed to make a left turn at Albequerque with my comment ::lol:: I was like: "wuh ? I responded to someone else ?"

But it's nice to know that you live nearby ! For some reason I first thought that you lived in the U.K., and then in Arizona...

...maybe I have the Southwest on my mind ;)

Re: Serendipity ?

And yes. I meant to say Albuquerque. Albu.

I really did ;)

The bike ride sounds like fun. No going out for me tonight though; not only do I have a few gallons of home-made apple sauce simmering on the stove, but someone who shall remain nameless has not yet assembled my new bike.

Reading books on your phone — What will they think of next?

Lastly, I think it's great that you're joining the Big Sister organization. You'll make some lucky girl one heck of a cool Big Sister!
renniekins From: renniekins Date: September 2nd, 2004 07:20 am (UTC) (Link)
hm, we should speak to He Who Must Not Be Named and tell him to get on the ball. Then we could all ride bikes together!

Homemade applesauce? Neat!!
