Rice Krispy Treats
Rice Krispy TreatsThe people spoke, and I listened. (It helps that I really like rice krispy treats.) I almost forgot to photograph them, but I took this pic with my Treo while walking up the stairs to my office this morning.

Last night D and I ordered chinese food and cooked up a whole slew of rice krispy treats. And corn flake treats, as was suggested by some. I modified the recipe some: I couldn't find red hot candies, so I used holiday M&Ms. Also making them into wreaths sounded like a lot of work, so I went with the "blob" approach. Also the only corn flakes I could find had banana chips in them, so I had to pick those out. (Other than that, they're just like the recipe.)

Once I had all that food coloring and M&Ms, naturally I decided to use it in the rice krispies also...especially since I didn't find red and green rice krispies like I'd hoped to. I think the arrangement came out pretty festive. And it definitely came out yummy, which was the most important thing!

It really...

...isn't right. Food shouldn't be florescent pink.

Re: It really...

Yeah, I know. They were supposed to be red.... I guess I didn't use enough food coloring.

I haven't had one of those in years! Good stuff, though I don't think I've ever had M&Ms in them. They look very tasty :)

No, alas, I don't know of a chinese place that delivers. I ordered carryout, then we went shopping for ingrediants, then we picked it up on the way back.

yum!
i make the corn flake treats every year. i found that you have to double the food coloring from what they suggest and i have green hands for a couple of days. and making them into wreathes is way too much work! i just make "holly" blobs. i may have to try using the m&m's instead of the teeth breaking red hots.
renniekins From: renniekins Date: December 8th, 2004 10:57 am (UTC) (Link)
The M&Ms tasted good! They didn't "stick" really well, but I suspect the red hots would be the same - maybe I shoulda put them on when the marshmallow was still pretty hot?

My hands aren't green -- but my holly probably wasn't green enough either! Oh well, still a fun treat. (:

you have to put them on almost immediately to get them to stick. and even then only about 75% of them will stay. the other tip i'll give you if you ever make them again is to keep coating your hands in butter while you are forming them. they stick to you less.

Very pretty (and good to know that they're tasty too). You could cater modern art gallery openings. ;)
