I really really really want to be a motorcycle person but I have not made the effort to take a class and get the endorsement, and I certainly don't have the funds to buy a motorcycle right now.

I lied on the are you a motorcycle person poll.

I don't have my "CY" endorsement, I have my "M" endorsement. That's what Ontario uses.

I didn't take an MSF course, I took a motorcycle course offered by the Ottawa Carleton Safety Council.

But, hey, I figured the lies were closer to the truth than the truth was.

I don't have my "CY" endorsement, I have my "M" endorsement.

Same here. At least, now that I live in SoLA I have an "M" endorsement. In Ohio is was something completely random like "H".

How much is your bike insurance over and above your car insurance?
dagibbs From: dagibbs Date: May 1st, 2006 06:53 pm (UTC) (Link)
They are completely different insurances. It isn't like having a 2nd car on a car insurance policy. I don't remember how much, but the motorcycle policy is probably around $1000/year, much of it "accident benefits", i.e., health/injury to me benefits.
jeffreyab From: jeffreyab Date: May 1st, 2006 08:09 pm (UTC) (Link)
I knew there was a reason I don't own a motorcycle.

That's about my con budget for a year and it about equals my car insurance.

I think it's cheaper in the US is it not?
duane_kc From: duane_kc Date: May 1st, 2006 09:16 pm (UTC) (Link)
It's a lot cheaper in the US (and cheaper still if you're not on a racebike.)

Mine runs about $250 USD per year.
pi3832 From: pi3832 Date: May 1st, 2006 11:44 pm (UTC) (Link)
In the U.S. it's also cheaper the more motorcycles you insure. And I don't mean per bike, I mean the total bill is lower. E.g., it would cost me $1100 to insure the Evil Bandit alone, but only $600 to insure both it and the Leper.

Strange, but true.

Yet another good reason to own multiple motorcycles!
dagibbs From: dagibbs Date: May 2nd, 2006 02:55 am (UTC) (Link)
That is SO bizarre. Hm... how much would the Leper alone cost? Are they much different as bikes?
pi3832 From: pi3832 Date: May 2nd, 2006 01:00 pm (UTC) (Link)
The Leper is pretty cheap, because it's a 1985 VF700S. The 700 puts it in a higher rate category, but being that old, and having no "R" in its model helps make bring the rate down.

The Evil Bandit, meanwhile, is a '99, and a 1200 which is why it's so pricey on its own. Thank heaven it doesn't have an "R" in model designation (GSF1200S).

Sorry, I guess that was a very Michigan-Centric poll. I'm still learning what all these words and abbreviations mean.....

I think your lies were quite appropriate! (:
aiela From: aiela Date: May 1st, 2006 08:17 pm (UTC) (Link)
I think your icons should be a mix of pictures of you and the cartoon dude. (I really like the one of him parachuting)
thatguychuck From: thatguychuck Date: May 1st, 2006 09:08 pm (UTC) (Link)
I couldn't answer the first poll because it was an either/or radio button. I like the idea of pictures of Duke AND pictures of you! (Not a combination of the both though, I think.)
renniekins From: renniekins Date: May 2nd, 2006 02:13 am (UTC) (Link)
hmm, actually that might be an entertaining photoshop challenge at some point....
rustymarble From: rustymarble Date: May 1st, 2006 09:44 pm (UTC) (Link)
I too had to lie on the Motorcycle question. I own the Harley through my husband... ie: it's his but common ownership. Sadly I've never ridden it. :-( It's got lowered bouncy-thingies so if he has anyone over 100 lbs on it, the brake lights get rubbed by the wheel. Yes, it has occurred to me that this means only teeny, breakable, women can have the thrill of riding behind him, but I get over it. ;-)

(The icon question is a tough one as well...maybe you with the cartoon (a la Roger Rabbit) would be cute?)
rustymarble From: rustymarble Date: May 1st, 2006 09:45 pm (UTC) (Link)
*sigh* I meant the brake light wires get rubbed by the wheel... not the brake lights themselves.
renniekins From: renniekins Date: May 2nd, 2006 02:14 am (UTC) (Link)
ah, that makes more sense.

That's so sad you've never ridden it! Maybe you should learn to drive it yourself, then there wouldn't be the two-person-weight issue.
rustymarble From: rustymarble Date: May 2nd, 2006 02:27 am (UTC) (Link)
*grin* My husband fears my driving on four wheels! He'd never let me handle his "baby"! Plus that thing's a monster! I can't pick it up after tipping it, much less dropping it!
I think it's awesome that you're learning though!
dagibbs From: dagibbs Date: May 2nd, 2006 02:57 am (UTC) (Link)
Actually, you probably COULD pick it up after dropping it. I've heard of a tiny lady who does lifting motorcycle demos... using a Goldwing. It just takes proper technique.
jebra From: jebra Date: May 1st, 2006 09:55 pm (UTC) (Link)
Just to clarify a few things:
  • Duke is cute. You're cuter. I like cute and try to get the most I can from my icon viewing moments.
  • You are deluding yourself. Good luck doesn't come from troll dolls, it comes from stroking kitties.
  • Even though not a motorcycle person, I'm often mistaken for a motorcycle person.
There -- I'm glad we were able to clear that up.

Hmmm ... I just realized that renniekins is potentially 50% luckier than I am.
thatguychuck From: thatguychuck Date: May 2nd, 2006 12:38 am (UTC) (Link)

:)

Even though not a motorcycle person, I'm often mistaken for a motorcycle person.

I'm not an actor, but I play one on TV.

*laugh*
renniekins From: renniekins Date: May 2nd, 2006 02:15 am (UTC) (Link)
Stroking kitties! Now there's a fine idea. I'm going to have to find a kitty this evening and increase my luck.

Thanks for the clarifications!

I want you to change icons for entirely selfish reasons. I so strongly associate the Duke icons with you, I become briefly confused when I see them in other contexts. "What's Rennie doing here? Oh, wait, that's somebody else's logo too...."
