Treo 700p
New toy, new toy, new toy!

I want it. If it follows me home, can I keep it? If I drag it home, can I keep it anyway?

Well, don't show it to me if you get one. Because then I'll have to buy one too, and I'm supposed to be saving my money up :-).

Only if your wireless provider will give you a deal.

I just wish they'd make one without the little keyboard. I mean, that is one of the upsides to the Palm OS is, no need for a keyboard. I'm sure it's nice for some, but to me it just eats up valuable real-estate that could be better used. 320x320 though... it does tend to make one salivate...

I wasn't sure I'd like it, when I got it, but now I'm pleased with it. The nice thing about the keyboard is not having to pull out the stylus for hardly anything. Quicker for "on the go" and/or one-handed stuff. Also my graffiti skills have never been that great....

Ahh, excellent point... it would have to be nicer if you're "graffiti challenged", and the keyboard is probably why the treo keeps getting rated as the best of breed for one handed use...

So when are you going to get it? :P

Are you using a 600 or 650 now? It doesn't look like much of an upgrade from the 650, but it's a worthwhile upgrade from the 600.

I'm using a tired little 600. I've been thinking for quite some time that it really needs replacement.... but I'm not sure if I'm willing to spend as much as (I expect) this will cost. Sure looks nice though! I wonder when it'll be available?

Re: And...

Oooh! I haven't heard those rumors.... maybe it's worth the wait.

Hmmmm...Can it find a Starbucks in Grayling? :)
renniekins From: renniekins Date: May 16th, 2006 11:50 pm (UTC) (Link)
Well, it can't BUILD a Starbucks in Grayling, so we're out of luck!
thatguychuck From: thatguychuck Date: May 17th, 2006 08:56 pm (UTC) (Link)
It can find anything. It'd be a Treo owned by a Rennie!
marsgov From: marsgov Date: May 16th, 2006 01:17 pm (UTC) (Link)
If you'd be so kind, please explain to me why you'd want this Treo instead of the one you use now.

And if I'm reading it correctly, this one uses Palm OS instead of that Windows hack?
renniekins From: renniekins Date: May 16th, 2006 06:24 pm (UTC) (Link)
Yes, it uses Palm OS, which is definitely my preference. I have a rather beatup Treo 600 right now. It's about 2 years old. I still love it and use it daily, but it's beginning to show its age. The buzzing noise comes back periodically, and it doesn't hold a charge nearly as long as it used to, and it will turn off its wireless if it gets bumped too hard. This model doesn't have a replaceable battery. The screen has two washed out spots on it, where the pixels aren't as bright -- tolerable, but annoying. It still works, but I know it will be time to replace it soon.

My plan was to buy a refurb 650, if/when Cingular posts them again on their site. There's a good chance I'll still do that, because I'm cheap -- but I sure would love to have a newer fancier model, and it's fun to lust after.

If you want, the internal batteries can be removed and repacked with new cells. There's a place in Ann Arbor (Batteries Plus) that repacks batteries. I've had a DeWalt drill battery pack re-packed for $25. It's a far cry from the $80-$110 for a new battery pack.

So do most treos or PDAs only last about 2 years?
pstscrpt From: pstscrpt Date: May 16th, 2006 03:17 pm (UTC) (Link)
Who's your cell provider? mogwar might be interested in your old phone if it's Verizon.
renniekins From: renniekins Date: May 16th, 2006 06:24 pm (UTC) (Link)
It's Cingular, sorry.
jeffreyab From: jeffreyab Date: May 16th, 2006 03:22 pm (UTC) (Link)
IF you can afford it and have nothing better to spend the money on, like on say Race for the Cure.

Man, nothing like tossing an ill-deserved guilt trip around, eh?

Its the question I ask before most big purchases these days.

Really cuts into vacation plans.

Palm is still doing 320x320/320x480? I would expect a $400 PDA to have a better resolution than my 3 year old Clié!
