Christmas Gift
I was just reading an lj holiday wishlist group, and I started feeling all mushy and givey. *grin* I thought the idea of granting wishes to strangers sounded neat and fun, but I'm pretty terrible at remembering to send things through the mail. Also, I somewhat prefer to give gifts to my friends -- or at least for my friends.

I want to give a simple present to you. Yes, if you're reading this, you. Comment with a link to your favorite charity, and as long as it is one that takes online donations, I will donate $5 to it. For you.

Sound nice? Then do it! Merry Christmas, or Happy Holidays, or Joyous Thursday, or whatever you prefer to say... just find me a link to something you care about, and let me give a small gift to both them and you.

HRC.org if you're so inclined. They do such good work for everyone.

Also, I gift them and the EFF about $100 each year. It's my way of sustaining our freedoms.

Done! I have my own personal charities I support, but I was captivated by the idea of giving small gifts to others to help support their passions!

I also have the EFF at the top of my charity list; they're fighting some legal battles that are really important, IMHO.

There are so many... but I like Doctors Without Borders:

Especially with the situation in Darfur, I think they're a timely charity.

they are a HUGE animal sanctuary who do so much good. They were one of the main groups organizing transport and/or searching out of NO after katrina. They've also brought several planes of companion pets from the war zones in the middle east. they really do amazing work. And animals with problems that dont allow them to be adopted arent a problem, best friends just keeps them. I want ot go out there and volunteer soon.

Funny, it took me awhile because I got all distracted looking at the stuff in the store. Do those purchases help fund you guys too? Eventually I remembered what I was doing there and made a donation though. Cheers!

Three of our four cats are from this rescue. She feeds the cats before she buys her own groceries. Very good organization.

I have to pimp the one that I volunteer with, of course, the Humane Society of Northwest Louisiana. We take donations online through the Amazon Honors system. Here is a link. Let me know if you have any problems, we just recently starting using that Amazon system. And thank you!! I think this is a great idea!!

of course, i *wanted* you to promote your place!

I made the donation, and it seemed to work just fine... i'll keep an eye on it though and let you know if anything seems weird.

Thanks, and merry Christmas!

http://www.bearnecessities.org/Donate/Index.html

I used to work for Bear Necessities when we lived in Palatine. They view their mission as one of helping the families in little ways that fall through the cracks. Probably the most common thing they do is have professional cleaners go to homes prior to the children going home from the hospital after their cancer treatment. After that, they have what they call 'Small Miracles' which are something like a day at Great America or at the American Girl store in downtown Chicago, or meeting a local sports figure for lunch. They're definitely not the American Cancer Society or even MakeAWish, but they do good stuff for good people.

The Red Cross. I don't have a favorite charity, but I think this is a good one that you wouldn't mind donating to. If they don't have online donating, give a fiver one of the next times you donate blood.

Love ya, and great Christmas gift idea!
