Cat Convo
I was having one of those late-night conversations a few years back, in my house. The conversation wandered, as such conversations do. For some reason the subject of cat nipples came up. One of my cats was hanging out nearby, perhaps that is why.

We discussed the fact that both human girls and human boys have nipples, just two of each. Cats clearly have more though. "How many nipples does a cat have," we wondered. And do boy cats have the same number as girl cats? Fortunately a cat was nearby.

I learned something that night. This is good, because a late-night rambley conversation is worthless if nothing is learned.

I learned that cats hate to have their nipples counted.

Boy cat nipples are darned hard to find. Girl cat nipples somewhat so especially if they've never had a litter. When they're nursing, they get lots bigger, IIRC about 1/8" dia by about 1/4" long, and the milk producing tissues on the chest get pretty pronounced, about a 1/2" thick cushion when they're engorged.

To the delight of human males, human female breasts and nipples do not exhibit the vast reduction in size that most other mammals' do when not nursing.

don't they have something like six or eight nipples?

Maybe the cat has an extra (7th? 9th?) nipple like humans can have a third nipple, is embarrassed by it, and so they fought you to keep that from being revealed.

On an episode of CSI not too long ago, it was mentioned that there are certain species of oysters that can spontaniously switch genders, and that perhaps we, as humans unable to switch as needed are the genetic mutation. It was an interesting thought, and could explain why boys get 'em too.

BTW, cat's don't like much of anything that they haven't previously approved.

According to Purina, the answer is eight.

I just read this in a book titled something like, "30 questions you've wanted to ask your doctor but never could"

The question was "why do men have nipples?"

The answer is that when we are born, gender isn't determined until the 6th week.

I think you mean conceived. Gender is fully determined at birth.

Hm... in most cases, gender is fully determined at birth. In some cases it is still confusing, ambiguous, or mixed.

Rarely, but ok. That's physical gender, of course. Genetic gender is fully determined at conception. XX, XY, XXY, and XYY (I don't think there are any other viable mixes).

Well, how would you like it if I woke you up from a nap and started counting your nipples?

Did you take more scratches in damage than you counted nipples?
