Still Winter
I keep thinking it should be spring by now, but it's not. It's cold out, and although most of the snow has gone, there are still white spans in the areas which spend most of their time in the shade.

My cold, like the cold outside, is mostly gone -- but there are still patches of ick inside my head which linger.

I was reading American Gods last night, because I felt I needed a refresher after having read Anansi Boys. The main character, at least during the part of the novel I was reading last night, spends a lot of his time eating pasties. I found myself so caught up in the story that I did a quick internet search and found a place nearby which sells pasties.

They say you shouldn't shop while you are hungry. I had not realized that you also should not read while hungry. The pasties were good, both the one I had last night and the one for lunch today, although I felt the meat ratio was a bit low for my taste. Still they filled a craving. I know that there are some sad lands where pasties are not so easily available, so I should not complain.

My C25K running program has been languishing but has not died. I have run at least once every week since I began eight weeks ago, but it has been four weeks since I've actually managed to do the target amount (three times a week). Last week I ran twice, and this week today was my first day. It is only wednesday though, so I have high hopes that I'll manage two more runs this week.

If Spring ever comes, I am looking forward to bicycling more. With my new work schedule, it should be much easier to do local club rides, and there is one that meets right by my house every wednesday. I like bicycling, especially with people, and I think it will be gentler on my knees too. If winter ends, that is. I'm expecting April to have one last snowfall up her sleeve, so I have to be careful not to get too complacent.

I haven't had a really good pastie since I was last in the UP. I actually miss them occasionally.

Another comment, Spring arrived by the calendar that Thursday and tomorrow is my weekly 5k run, wish me luck, if I get a good night's sleep, I am shooting for a 32 minute run, a bad night sleep and it will be more like 38 minutes or worse. Goal is still a 30 minute 5k. Good night. And get over that cold, you're better than my friend Stormie, she's been home in bed for 5 days, her daughter for 6; she worked Saturday and gave it to everyone one there, they were all off sick by Tuesday.

Pasties aren't -supposed- to have a lot of meat. They're working class (miners) food. Barb's pasties are very much like 'proper' UP pasties, although the crust is less sturdy -- aaui, Barb grew up in the UP (Iron Country, not Copper Country).

I need spring weather, too. Maybe it would knock Al's cold/fever/whatever it is out of him! And my students would be able to go outside and get rid of all the ants in their pants! It would be a good thing.

Had I suspected that you might suffer from the occassional pastie craving, I'd have introduced you to Barb's years ago. Had I my wits about me, I'd have suggested it for "something different" as a matter of course.

Next time I do a pastie run at ConFusion, I'll look you up.
Rutabegas, turnips ... whatever.

Oh my... if I lived closer to Barb's I'd probably weigh twice what I do now.
