Holy Brrr, Batman!
This morning my car made "I don't want to start" noises at me for a moment before the engine turned over. Then as I pulled out of the driveway, it creaked so much, I swear it sounded like bits of it were going to crack and fall right off.

I looked at the thermometer, and I saw why:

That's -18 Fahrenheit, also known as -28 Celsius, also known as holy crap it's cold! (Actually it showed -21 when it first got started, but I guess the roads were a bit warmer than the driveway, or the sun started coming up, or something.)

By the time I got to my office, an hour later, it showed a balmy -6 degrees. Oh yes, that's much better.

Weather.gov was showing -8 when we saw that Adrian's school was cancelled for cold, and then -9 when I got into work about 9:20. I think car thermometers can be a little flakey, but it's still pretty damn cold.

Flippin 'eck, that's cold! No wonder our weather forecasters are warning us that it's going to get much, much colder in a few days - we tend to get similar weather to that on the Eastern Seaboard, usually 3-4 days after them. Today is actually above freezing... it feels LOVELY.

It's a lovely 38°F (3°C) in Austin, TX right now. I wore a sweater and a jacket outside today.

Tomorrow morning I'll be skiing where it was -27°F this morning. I'm hoping for a warmup by then. Really hoping. Please!

Big Black River in Maine recorded a low last night of -50°F.

Now I feel a little better knowing my car wasn't the only one making all those scary noises. I got worried for a minute. I'm also having problems with fenderburgs that are frozen solid, but they are so big they are kind of interfering with my tires when I turn, but I can't dislodge them.

This is SO FUNNY. I took this SAME picture, and posted it on facebook, and another friend of mine did too!! We all think alike!
