Weekend Off
Wow, what a super-good weekend. My house went on the market thursday, so for the first time since I got this crazy notion into my head over a month ago, M and I had a weekend with no work to do. No painting, no drilling, nothing to sweep or hammer or rearrange or carry up stairs.

It was lovely!

The weekend began friday night with Dragonfly's 30th birthday party. It was a surprise party, but now that it's over I'm free to talk about it. A handful of folks got together at a really good Asian restaurant in Troy. The food was wonderful, the red-headed-sluts were strong and tasty, and I had a wonderful time laughing and catching up with a pile of friends. It's funny, because I've been so distracted with my house stuff that I haven't talked to many people. I rsvp'd to the party, but didn't get around to asking who else was going. Thus it was kind of a surprise party for me also, a surprise to discover which others of my friends were there!

Saturday morning involved some luxurious sleeping in. Then M and I went to brunch at a place we've been wanting to try in Clawson - Fritatas, which was also very good. Then we rode our bikes to the zoo. We spent the afternoon looking at animals either sleep, laboriously climb up rocks, or chase each other about. It was a really hot afternoon, but still a nice way to spend a saturday.

After we rode home, we showered and got dressed up. Saturday night we attended my 20th high school reunion!!! That number in itself is crazy, and it was even stranger to see a bunch of grownup faces that looked faintly like the children I grew up going to school with. We had a good time, if surreal, and it was nice to catchup with some folks.

Sunday involved less sleeping in, but still a little bit. Then we slowly roused ourselves, tidied up the house (gotta keep the darn thing spotless, in case any buyers come through, but at least we didn't do any actual work), then hit the road. We headed out to M's mom's house, and had a lovely brunch with M's family (his mom, brother, sister-in-law, niece, and nephew). It was great spending some family time, catching up with everybody, and we showed off a brochure for my house.

Speaking of which, the house looks great! Please feel encouraged to circulate it around to anybody who might be looking for a starter home near Royal Oak, or anybody who knows anybody looking.

After brunch and a few games, we hit the road again, this time to M's house. I reacquainted myself with the two younger cats, who had moved to live with him last weekend. They are starting to settle in. We hung out for a bit, enjoyed some relaxation-with-nothing-to-do, then eventually headed out to Kohl's. He needed some new underwear, an I needed socks without holes in them.

About $250 later, we emerged with new socks, underwear, many work shirts, pants, and even a necktie. It was a productive trip! I'm looking forward to wearing something new and comfy to work tomorrow. We then popped by Target to buy exciting stuff like paper towels, saline solution, and protein bars.

At the end of the day, we met up with S&R for dinner in Ann Arbor. It was great getting to hang out with yet a fourth group of people we don't see often enough! We ate, joked around, and commiserated about the agonies of trying to sell one's house. It was lovely seeing them, a yummy meal, and a perfect ending to the weekend off.

We got back to M's place and finished our evening with an episode of Sookie. Now it's bedtime, as it's back to work tomorrow.....

On the exciting side of things: tomorrow evening my house is being shown to a potential buyer for its first time. Whee! Hopefully they'll love it and make me an offer, and we'll have this whole thing wrapped up in September. (....what? It could happen...!)

on my screen your reunion post is right above mine! (yes i'm a dork!)

best wishes on the house-selling. you might want to pick up a St. Joseph. before you scoff... i'm not Catholic either, but after i buried my St. Joseph in the yard, the 3rd couple through bought the house - it went up for sale around Labor Day and i moved out in mid-October.

Hey, you and M. are a really good-looking couple, you know that?
The house looks ADORABLE. I think the colour scheme in the bathroom would sell it for me - that black tile detail is so sharp and Deco! I hope you've sold it. You should have!

The house looks great and FWIW, sometimes you can sell a house to the first people who come and look at it (I did ;-).

I'll keep my fingers crossed and hope you sell your place soon!
