Not that I've actually eaten any steak...but I've thought about it. At my office's holiday dinner saturday, one of the dishes passed around was roast beef with mushrooms. "Oooh, look at all that iron!" I exclaimed enthusiastically. Of course, I probably helped myself to more mushrooms than beef, but at least I ate some of the beef. It's a start.
It's only been 4 days. This frenzy will probably last about a week, then I will go back to my usual poor eating habits and forgetful occasional pill-taking. Hopefully I'll still manage to get enough iron into my body to get my levels up nearer to normal anyway.
One of the things I found most interesting was reading over the symptoms listed on this page. Do I often feel weak or tired? Well of course I do...doesn't everyone? It's the holidays. Everybody is busy, overworked, under-rested, and so forth. I haven't noticed myself feeling more tired than usual, but I'm also very bad at listening to my body. The very next page says, "...if your numbers are below the [normal] ranges, then you may be feeling worse than you should." This could mean that if I can raise my iron-levels, I'll find myself with extra energy (or at least more than I have now)! Now that, I could definitely use. Good thing I ordered extra meatballs.
