Allergies and Softball

I am very allergy-plagued today. I was yesterday too. It is almost all in my left nostril, which is extremely odd and uncomfortable. The right side is mildly affected, but really it's the left that has been blocked up, runny, hurty, sneezey, and darn annoying for 2 days now. This is important for me to share. I don't know why.

Last night I played softball; it was our second-to-last night of the season. It's sad to see it end, because I really didn't make it to very many games. Also, that means the summer is ending. This might be good for my allergies, but otherwise I'd prefer it to last longer. Besides, I'll probably just catch a cold now.

We were supposed to play two games last night, but our second team forfeited. I guess the team scheduled to play against our first team also didn't show up, because we played the first game much longer than usual. Generally, the game is played for an hour then it ends, no matter how many innings you've managed to finish. This time, we played a full 7 innings since we had the time.

Apparently, my team is only good for 6 innings. We played pretty well to begin with. It was a close game, but at the end of the 6th we were ahead by one point. It had been an hour...I thought the game was over! We'd won! But then we were heading out to the field again. (I never really know what's going on, I just do what I'm told. But somebody explained to me the whole no-second-game thing.)

Well, in the 7th inning we got our butts kicked. *sigh* The other team got several runs...I'm not sure how many, because the scoreboard was broken. We got maybe 1 run our last time at bat, then the game was over. I'm not even sure what the score was, but we lost. I was disappointed, especially since I'd thought we'd already won the game.

I personally played a fairly unexciting game. I played right field. Several grounders came out there, all of which I successfully stopped (yay!). There was one popup that was coming down way in front of me. I sprinted forward at a dead run, trying to get under it in time. I over calculated a bit (this happens to me too often!), and ended up just tapping it with my glove as it flew over my head. Darn it! I made a couple of good hits, but I never got all the way around the bases. Ah well.

At least we "won" the second game, since the other team didn't show...but it's not the same of course. We went to the bar afterward, and at first everyone was quiet and grumpy. Eventually we relaxed and had a good time though. It was still a fun game, just a bummer to have lost!
