Race For The Cure

My mother is a 5-year breast cancer survivor. More than 40,000 women will die from breast cancer this year alone. 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime.

All of these are excellent reasons for me to participate in the local Race For The Cure. Funds raised by this event go to support local breast cancer screening, education and special treatment programs, as well as national breast cancer research.

It's funny, because a lot of advertisements for these sorts of walks and whatnot focus on the actual walking/running/biking/whatever. Ya know, it's not the activity that helps prevent breast cancer. It's the money. It doesn't matter if you go 1 mile or 300 miles; the distance is not going to cure cancer all on its own. The activity is just a way to encourage people to raise money and promote awareness.

So this June I'm walking (not running, not this year!) 5K in the Race, yes... but more important than the walk is my $25 entry fee and any additional donations I make/raise. I am therefore attempting to raise some extra money toward this very worthwhile cause.

If you are interested in helping out by donating to the Friends For The Cure, there is a very simple website which will allow you to donate via credit card in my name.

I'd appreciate any support you can give! Help find a cure for breast cancer!

Extra incentive: anybody who donates at least $10 can request from me a personalized photo, anything you want (rated PG-13), and I'll email it to you. Want a picture of my cat attacking a teddy bear, or wearing a sign that says "I love dogs"? Want a picture of my belly with "John Doe Rules!" written on it? Want to see my favorite bra? Can you come up with anything other creative requests? All ya gotta do is donate.
