Bed Bath and Beyond

Two nights ago I had a very good time at SGW's birthday party. I got her a fun game (Blokus), and a few of us played it late in the night. As I drove home though, I noted with some concern that my throat was sore and scratchy. I hoped it was due to something I'd eaten or drunk.

Unfortunately the following day I woke up to a very sore throat and a generally tired ickyness. Blah! Don't know where it came from, but I seem to have found myself a winter cold. It's probably due to the crazy weather we've had recently - drastic changes in the weather often disrupt my immune system.

M and I had a few errands to run yesterday. He needed a new pair of dress shoes, so we went to DSW. We found him some handsome ones, then I looked at shoes myself. I realized that I have no idea what the dress code will be at my new office, so I decided to wait to buy anything until I found out.

Since Bed Bath and Beyond was right next door, I suggested we check it out. I wanted to buy a heated mattress pad. He has been thinking about getting some insulated curtains for his lower level, so we went exploring. You can tell it's winter in Detroit, when every other purchase involves some sort of warming device.

As we stood in the checkout line, holding a new mattress pad and matching jars of driveway salt-stuff, a friend of his called. Apparently the friend was watching a football game, and wanted to know if M had seen a particularly cool play. M had to admit that no, he wasn't watching football. "I'm at Bed Bath and Beyond," he said with a little embarrassment.

Apparently his friend started laughing so hard that he couldn't speak for several seconds.

And this was without even having been told that M had been looking at window treatments, and had just finished shoe shopping! It's a good thing we didn't tell him those additional details; he might have choked on his merriment.

Last night we rounded off the day with a dinner out at Mario's in downtown Detroit, followed by a live performance of Wicked!. (Hence the immediate need for dress shoes.) It was a fun day, even if I wasn't feeling all that splendid.

Today I was feeling even less splendid, and had nothing that needed to be done all day, so I decided I could baby myself. I slept in, and other than a brunch with M at Big Boy's, I spend the rest of the day curled up in bed, alternately reading and napping. It was a good way to recuperate. I'm still sick, but now there is a good chance I'll survive!

Good thing I'm rested up, because tonight is Euchre Therapy with my girlfriends! I've been looking forward to it for awhile. I will be careful not to breathe on anybody, and I can't wait for some cards, fun, and girly conversation.
