chaotic, spin

Dance dance dance

M and I both enjoy watching athletic competitions, however he likes sports like football and rugby, while I prefer dance, gymnastics, or ice skating. That said, I will occasionally watch football or baseball with him, so I thought it quite reasonable when I suggested this evening that he join me to watch the season premier of So You Think You Can Dance. (Side note: my DVR has been recording the episodes, and nine of them had piled up while I was busy with other things. The season premier was awhile ago.)

I have been trying to convince him that SYTYCD is a sport, since it's a competition among athletes. He was quite dubious, but I assured him he'd have fun. "There are cool athletic tricks, lifts and flips, and some really amazing talent. Also sometimes it's funny, when the people are particularly bad or just seeking their two minutes of fame." After our first sight of blood, I noted, "Also sometimes people have some spectacular falls, which is also neat!" He reluctantly agreed to watch it for 30 minutes before passing judgment.

He actually watched about 45 minutes before it was bedtime. When I turned it off, I said encouragingly, "See, that was kinda fun, wasn't it?"

"Wellll..... kinda fun."

"Certainly no worse than watching football."

He squeaked wordlessly.

"Okay, certainly no worse than basketball."

"College or professional?"

"Professional."

"Okay," he conceded, "no worse than watching professional basketball."

After I tucked him into bed, I watched the second half of the episode. It was fun, and it's been far too long since I've made time for the show! I've missed watching sports....
