Skating Instead of Valentines
I think I've finished updating my fancy-schmancy new user profile. For the first time in over 2 years, my bio actually says something useful about me! I'm fairly pleased with it now. Feel free to offer an opinion if you have one.

So next week is the dreaded V-Day holiday. I've never much cared for V-Day. Who wants to celebrate a holiday which is made to make me feel like my life and/or relationship is inadequate? (This may be why I've become such a fan of Groundhog Day instead. It's just a nicer February holiday to celebrate.)

This year I will attempt to ignore it altogether, because I will be forced to be out of town for it. I will be at a skating competition in Traverse City. Coincidentally, I have a friend who lives up there. I'd wanted to get together with her, perhaps even spend the night at her place, but I was uncomfortable with asking since I knew it would be V-Day. I figured she would want to spend romantic time with her husband. As it turns out though, he will be out of town for the whole weekend! Now, not only am I not imposing, but I will be performing a service by spending time with her! My sister and I are going to stay with her most of the weekend, and she will come watch us skate. Hooray!

It will be a nice girly sort of weekend, and I think it will be good for me to be forcibly removed from the whole V-Day discomfort. The day traditionally just depresses me, so I'm glad I can't be around for it. The only bummer is that I will not be able to join my local female friends for our semi-traditional No Boys Allowed Anit-V-Day festivities. Hopefully I can get together with them either before or after instead.

Oh, and.... the Joke contest results tomorrow! This is your last chance to submit an entry and win a paid account. so go for it.

when do you leave for Traverse City? or perhaps next week sometime? it doesn't have to be *on* VDay, as long as food and chocolate and no boys happens (:

I'll be leaving friday afternoon. Food, chocolate, no boys...sounds perfect! *grin* We could do sunday night. I have to be back from TC in time for skating, and will be done with that by 7:30. Sound possible? Otherwise next week would be easier, since I'm pretty busy this week.

Well, I'm glad you spent time for me on G-Day, and since V-Day gets you down, I'll try to think of something to life your spirits before and after.... ;)

I love TC (I worked at Interlochen for several summers from '89 - '97 [with gaps in '96 and part of '95]); how far a trip is that for you?

If you have some free time, make sure to check out the Cherry Hut in Beulah for a Frosted Cherry Ade (edit: Never mind-looks like it's closed until May. Bummer!).

Oh, cool! I've only been there once, quite awhile ago. It's allegedly a 4 or 5 hour drive. Not too bad.

Bumer about the Cherry Ade being closed, that sounded interesting. But we're planning on going tubing down a hill, like sledding! Sounds fun.
