the story of an invisible girl
I've finally plugged in my spiffy Palm keyboard, so I can write a
semi-decent entry.

My sore throat has evolved itself into a full-blown disgusting snotty
mess. I hate this stage of a cold, because I feel like a walking germ
factory. Oh well, at least I am on vacation instead of at work.
Plenty to distract me, and no schedules to keep. I'll ignore it as
best as I can; hopefully it will go away soon.

Actually this is a Team Cold. We share everything. Just about
everybody came down with a cold when the competition ended. This often
happens, maybe it has something to do with "letting go" after a long
and tough season, your defenses go down? Oh well.

Let's see, what have I done so far?
Sunday: switch in Hilton Resort, see Coronado, walk on the beach, then
dinner at Taylors in Mission Bay.

Monday: sun and hotel, drive friends to airport, walk on beach at
hotel, swim, then Tiajuana. Bought a little backpack for $15. H got a
bellybutton pierce, then dinner somewhere in Mission Bay again.

Tuesday: went to La Jolla. Wanted to Paraglide (like hanggliding, only
with a parachute), but the wind wasn't right so we couldn't. Shops in
La Jolla, got a t-shirt and a choaker, saw seals.

Then we went to the gliderport to check it out. Closed, but we hiked
down a very precarious 400 foot (straight down) cliff path to check out
a surfer spot/nude beach. Was accosted by a creapy old man flaunting
his nudity and apparent viagra. Made an otherwise beautiful place a
bit weird....but it makes a good story. Then a nasty long drive back
due to a wrong turn. Then we went to Froggie's for dinner.
Fortunately I was following somebody, because by the tie I got to the
right place I was looking for "Ducky's".

Wednesday (today): checked out of the Hilton, reluctantly. Sunned by
pool for a bit, then went to Old Town. Had Mexican food, saw historic
sights, and of course more shopping. I've been buying tons of stuff,
because I'm still on an emotional high from saturday. I keep
convincing myself I deserve it - everything! (Also, I packed kind of
poorly, so I don't have some useful stuff.)

Then this afternoon we drove up to LA. Checked into new motel (this is
no resort, but it's nice), then met up with J, my college roommate!
She took us out for pizza and Cold Stone Creamery ice cream. Both were

Now I guess it's bedtime, so I'll cuddle up with a box of kleenex.
Tomorrow we plan to visit Universal Studios! I was there once as a
child, and I loved the "stunts" show. Remind me someday to write about
my stuntman obsession.

Will Rogers owned a ranch on the north (coast) edge of LA which is now a state park. it has the only still active polo field in the country. It also has this ring trail you can take that gives you a really neat view of the city where you can see the coast on one side and the city on the other, because you're so high. Check it out if you get a chance.

Sorry to hear about the cold, but the rest sounds good.

How do you like the Palm keyboard? I've been thinking about getting one of those for note taking at meetings.

I love my Palm keyboard. $60 accordian style one from Best Buy I think? It's slightly bigger than my palm, so it doesn't fit comfortably in my everyday bag. I really only carry it when traveling. (I don't take many notes at meetings.) It's definitely not as nice as a PC and a keyboard, but a billion times better than graffiti.

Glad to hear you're having a good time; sorry to hear about the cold. I suppose there's some comfort to be found in having a cold in sunny California, rather than cool, damp, grey Michigan. (Cold comfort?)

How's the chicken soup out there?

Sorry about the cold, try to get enough rest.

Don't forget to send postcards!

Sounds like a fascinating trip... tell me if you need matzo ball soup when you get back.

reminder: write about your stuntman obsession.

Sounds like you're having a great time, in spite of being sick. Bummer about that, though. You'll be happy to hear it snowed today. Not a lot, just enough to make the roads slick. Also, it's currently 25F outside. I hope that makes you feel better!
