C's job was to help make sure Pete got to everywhere he was supposed to be, and I helped out with this, and I helped Pete and Tom out, in general. I even womaned the booth for awhile, selling shirts and books and stuff. It was fun! Anyway, Friday we took the guys to Greektown for lunch - yummy. I got my belly signed on Friday too...now I am an official Sluggy Belly Girl! Well, I guess I won't be official until I'm on the site, and who knows how long that'll take (since I think they are around 3 con reports behind), but at least I'm semi-official now. Friday night was a party with dancing. I wore an outfit that revealed my signed belly - felt kinda self-conscious at first, but then got more bold, I guess. The music was really good for dancing, I had a lot of fun, and I stayed up quite late.
Saturday I went out to breakfast with a bunch of people, and did a little bit at the con. Then I had to get ready for skating, as I had a skating competition that afternoon! So I did my hair and makeup, and put on my dress. Tom insisted on photographing me in the skating dress, as he said he wanted to capture my "many faces"! Lots of people were taking pictures of me all weekend, actually. I put up with it...actually I mostly enjoyed it. it was very flattering and I felt attractive and desirable. Such a good feeling.
The skating competition went great! We skated very well....what a relief after last time! It was not a perfect program, but it was very clean, and better than we've ever skated it yet. I feel much better about the team and skating in general, actually. It feels like things may be finally coming together. We did a back-lunge passthru. um, to put it simply it means that two lines come at one another, each skater going backwards gliding on one foot, with the other foot dragging on the ice pointing toward the opposing line, and then at the last moment you let go of the people next to you and the two lines splice through one another. So basically everyone's going backwards towards one another's blades. Very scary, and not generally attempted by "adult" teams, which is the division I skate in. So we did ours, and we did it GREAT!! I heard the whole audience cheer when we got through. We did another move, called a hydroblade, which is also hard and not usually done by adults. Got the same kinda surprised/impressed cheering noise from the audience. *grin* What a great feeling.
There were 3 other teams we skated against, and we took first place. Every judge (9 in total) placed us first. It felt so much better than last time! Wow!
Okay, then I got my medal and went back to the con. Showed off my medal and my dress some more, went and had dinner with a bunch of people, then finally found time to change out of my skating dress. I also took a bath and relaxed a bit, got cleaned up. By then it was time to dress up for the big Saturday night dance. C wanted us to dress in costume for the dance, so I wore last year's skating dress (it was blue/black/silver/sparkly/high-tech-look
Much later in the evening (after 1am I'd say), I decided to get more comfy and changed into my funky tie-dye pants and a t-shirt and tennis shoes. After awhile we settled at this one room party, and just sat on the couch talking to people. I started getting really sleepy - I'd had a really long day, complete with an intense skating competition, and hadn't slept much the night before. I was leaning against C, dozing off a little bit, while he talked to folks. I didn't want to ask him to go or anything though, since he was having a good time. And I was too - just a bit sleepy. Finally we called it a night and left, probably it was around 4 or 5am by then.
Sunday we spent finishing things up, packing up Pete and Tom, stuff like that. We all went out to a late lunch/dinner, then they went off to the airport, while I went off to skating practice. Yes, I had yet another skating practice - Sunday is our normal night, and even though we'd competed the day before we didn't get the night off, because we really need to continue our practicing and continue to get better. Our next competition is only like 2 weeks away, I think. In fact, it was a longer-than-usual practice. I was so tired by the end of the night! But when I got home, I had stuff on my mind, and ended up staying up quite late talking to C.
Tonight, I am going to bed early if it kills me! heehee. I really need some rest, and I think I'll feel much better. I was so tired and unfocused at work, I got very little accomplished. I finally just gave up and left early, promising myself that I'd go to bed early, then get up early tomorrow and do better.
