the story of an invisible girl
Contrast on the Road
I saw a jeep driving in front of me on my way to work this morning. This first thing I noticed was the vanity plate: MS K8T. Naturally I thought of hannunvaakuna, as she just got a similar plate.

Then I noticed that the license plate area of the jeep was decorated with several sparkley butterfly stickers. The plate had a colorful frame around it that gave the plate itself a rainbow-y hue. It was really the cheeriest-looking back panel I've seen in awhile!

A few minutes later I went to pass Ms K8t, and I glanced at the driver to see what she looked like. Natural curiosity... Well. I was in for quite a shock. It was a small angry-looking person in a baseball cap. I'm not even sure if it was a guy or a very butch woman. Heck, it might have been a surly teenager... whoever it was, it was such a difference from who I was expecting to see that my mind failed to fully register the details before I'd already driven past!

I dunno...if that was the sparkley butterfly-loving Ms K8t, she must be having a really bad day. Either that, or somebody stole her car.

Either that, or somebody stole her car.

If somebody stole her car, she's DEFINITELY having a bad day. ;)

Butterflies can be deceiving, can't they?
renniekins From: renniekins Date: August 5th, 2004 10:13 am (UTC) (Link)
Indeed they can. Troublesome little creatures, they can be...

Maybe it really means "miscreant" and the butterflies are just to throw you off?

So if a butterfly flaps its wings in Michigan, does a Passat get stolen in Anchorage? ;)

I think the pissed off thief is a good answer. Some one thinking they could steal a car quick and then they realize the only thing missing from making it the Barbie Jeep is for it to be bubblegum pink. The thief is really pissed because he knows his fellow car thief friends will razz him about it.

Yeah... Car theives, just like children, can be so cruel.

I think the license plate stands for "Mask [of] Hate". Which the driver was displaying - kudos !!

Plus: "small angry-looking person in a baseball cap" ? Made me laugh, laugh, and laugh... :))

vanity plates

I almost wonder if there are only a handful of people in the world who can read/decipher/understand cryptic messages? Maybe it just us programmers who either were used to short code or were in school when the 'hot' new language was c+ ? ;)

Hey btw, a little bit of credit goes out to you on this one, but I think I'm gonna add ejb/j2se to my repetuar(s?). =) I'm really diggin the fact of Macromedia Flash can attach xml to a backend (with both data & event driven classes/methods), with a GUI front end, but I'm not so diggin the fact it's an interpreted language and the entire code base is exposed in every swf. I don't know much about java just yet, but what I know from jscript and the dom models, I have hope that something out there allows all the OOP power to be attached to any graphic element that is treated as just another object with methods/callbacks/properties etc. But just doesn't allow all those intelectual man hours to be swiped by someone else ;)

But as for my plate, it seams rather obvious to be, should be even more obvious to a lot more people living in Michigan seeing this is a hunting state. In either case I'm getting just a little tired of being asked, "what the hell is a beggle?"

Maybe I should put a gigantic vinyl graphic sticker on the back glass something like this with gigantic letters on the bottom:

This is a friggin' beggle

Btw, be sure to post or even let me know how the lasik thing goes, I've been interested too... and while I can make out a fuzzy white square, I'm not much better at being able to make out fuzzy black splotches. I've heard though that with some people it can dry out your eyes.
