the story of an invisible girl
Glasses Time
I am supposed to wear my glasses for two weeks prior to my Lasik screening. Well, to be accurate, they said I can't wear my contacts. They didn't say I have to wear glasses, but since I can't see without them that was implied.

Glasses TimeI'm not used to wearing glasses. I wear my contacts almost all the time. I'm just more comfortable in them: I have peripheral vision, I don't have any weight on my nose, they don't slide or get smudged. It's going to be weird doing the Glasses Thing for two whole weeks. At least I'm not skating or anything right now. Doing sports in glasses is such a pain!

An interesting side effect is that eyeglasses tend to make me feel tired and/or sick. I think it is due to the fact that I mostly only wear them at night before going to bed. In general, the only times I wear glasses to work are when I'm ill. Combine that fact with the unaccustomed slight weight pressing on my nose, and I just don't feel quite right.

Hopefully I'll get more used to them in the next couple of weeks, then they won't annoy me as much. Hopefully it will be worth it, and in a little while I won't need to wear contacts OR glasses! That would be so cool.

In the meantime, at least they look kind of cute. (I hope.)

Girls in glasses are *always* cute. It's like a default setting.

I think your observataions about the glasses making you feel "off" are quite interesting. Sort of like a conditioned reflex?

I've thought about lasik, but I'm just terrified that I'd be the one case in a million where something goes horribly wrong and I lose my sight completely. That, combined with actually liking my glasses, has kept me from it so far...

Yeah, I definitely worry about that too. Scary stuff, that! I keep waffling on the idea, but I figure I might as well at least get the free screening and find out as much as I can about it.

You really do look different in them. But still cute, that's an affirmative.

When's your surgery?

Whew! I haven't scheduled anything, nor even decided for sure if I'm going to do it. I just have an appointment to get screened, to determine if I'm even eligible for the surgery and to find out more info.

They look very cute! I feel weird when wearing glasses too. Like I should be doing something different. I wonder if Superman feels the same way.

Good point! I bet he does. Maybe that's my problem wearing glasses....I don't feel like a superhero anymore.

"In the meantime, at least they look kind of cute. (I hope.)"

You hope?

I agree with the default setting of "cute" for women in glasses stated up above.

After the two weeks you may just find yourself reaching up to adjust the glasses that are no longer there... I know I do all the times when I'm not wearing mine.

Yay, thank you!

That's right, I remember doing that too! I probably will be doing it again....

I guess you don't remember this written by Dorothy Parker in the 1920's:
News Item" -- "Men seldom make passes/At girls who wear glasses."

Re: glasses

Oh dear, 2 weeks of no dates?

Ah well, I've had worse.

On the plus side, apparently LJ goes against the norm, and folks here really like glasses!

No, it makes sense to me! It's funny, I found a really cute pair when I visited my eye doc last week. I kept trying them on, then remembering: oh wait, I'm trying to get out of these things!

If your glasses are giving you headaches, the prescription may not be right for you any more.

No, the prescription is still quite close to my current one. I just checked that when I visited my eye doc last week.

It's more that they make my eyes feel... heavy is the adjective that keeps coming to mind. Tired. Honestly I think a lot of it is just not being used to the constant light pressure on the bridge of my nose. That plus the mental/memory associations.

They do look cute! I like my glasses, although they can definitely be a pain. They're always getting dirty, and the arms get in the way of my hair, and the nose pads make my nose sweaty. XP But I could never wear contacts. I can't even watch other people put in contacts. I have so many weird eye hang-ups, I could never, ever put something in them.

Surgery to get my eyes fixed is like a dream to me--that would be totally awesome! I don't know how I feel about surgery though, having never had any before. Maybe I'll just keep it that way. It's probably early for me to make that decision anyway.

Good luck with your surgery, and your two weeks of glasses. You definitely don't have to worry about them looking bad ;) Although maybe I'm biased, I just like glasses.

Having perfect vision is a total dream, yes!!! It would be soooo cool. But the idea of having somebody operate on my eyes is way scary. That's why I'm not sure yet.

And thanks.. (:

Damn, that's sexy...

You sure you want surgery?
renniekins From: renniekins Date: August 31st, 2004 02:48 pm (UTC) (Link)

Thanks! Yes, because ya know, even if I have perfect vision I can always wear glasses for fun, which is the good thing about it.

But I gotta say, I'm getting paranoid! Do I look better with glasses?

I think I'll have to try side-by-side comparison shots tonight....

They'd darn well better be cute! They're just like mine!
