the story of an invisible girl
My dreams of late have been too realistic. Apparently. I say this, not because I remember dreaming, but because recently my mind has filled with memories of things that haven't happened. Not big memories -- no, I don't think I've been to the Caribbean or pony-riding across a rainbow -- but little ones. Tasks which I've been putting off, or emails I've hoped to receive or send.

For example, I have a very clear memory of pulling off the safety-foils and dropping a few individually-sealed antacid pills into my travel bag, so I'll have them with me over the weekend in case I want one. Except that I haven't done that yet. So what have I done, and what is just false memory? Why is my brain making stuff up? Will I forget to do something important, because I believe I've already done it? I don't know....

edit: I love the fact that when I saved this entry from the new update screen, LJ offered to "Add the entry to your memories". Like that would help.

Oh man, I do exactly the same thing. I'm always saying "I think I did that. . . or was that in a dream?" It's really bad. Like I'm not confused enough already.

Exactly! I have enough trouble remembering things already, without my darn subconscious throwing false memories into the confusion.

Hi! We've never met, but we know a lot of the same people, and I enjoy reading your LiveJournals.

I do the same things, "dreaming" about things I need to do. It helps me remember to actually do them. Yesterday I forgot my eye-drops. Last night I dreamed I got them out of the medicine cabinet and put them in my purse. This morning I remembered, and actually did it.

Hope it works for you!

p.s. Do you have trouble with the new LJ update screen "eating" your entry when you hit "Check spelling" or is it just me?

Hi Linda, thanks for commenting! I was wondering if I'd met you somewhere or not.

That will probably help, once I figure out which are dream-memories and which are real ones. The problem right now is that the memories feel real! I have to really think about things, to decide if they've happened or not. Weird. I guess I've just had a coule of extra-lucid dreams, and now I'm all confused.... (:

I haven't had trouble with the spell check yet, no. But I've only used the new update 3 or 4 times, so maybe it'll happen later?

Nice to "meet" you!

I have dreams like that and they're either of the "I really need to go over my task plan for *blank*" or they're pre-cognition dreams... something that hasn't happened yet.
I've had pre-cog dreams happen over a year before the event happens. The pre-cog dreams have a different "taste" to them than the anxiety dreams though. The pre-cog dreams that I have aren't very helpful either, just snapshots of moments, a mental picture of everyday life. But they're startling in their reality.

Wow, that would be freaky. I don't think that's ever happened to me...but honestly I have such a bad memory, it's often hard to tell! Have I done this before? Did I dream about it? Or read about it? Or just imagine it, which makes it feel familiar?

I have similar dreams

I think its common to dream about stuff you have to do soon or are worrying about.

So it could be things you want to do or have happen to you or not want to have happen to you.

Like the famous having to write a test you did not study for in your pajamas.

Re: I have similar dreams

It makes sense to dream about stuff that's on your mind, yeah. It's just annoying that my mind is fooling itself into thinking things have already happened! (:

"no, I don't think I've been to the Caribbean or pony-riding across a rainbow"

You mean that wasn't you in my dream? I could have sworn we rode My Little Ponies across a rainbow in the Caribbean.

Ah well.. must've been some other rennie I know...

Well darn, 'cause that would have been fun.

What few dreams I remember are always of this realistic variety. I can only distinguish them from reality by minor things that, upon reflection, seem impossible. Like going to the store and buying hot dogs.

If you're sincerely worried about missing important tasks, you should make yourself a to-do list. Your treo's good for that, right? I'd suggest doing that anyway. For me, the only problem with that is how depressingly behind I get in my list of things to do. In my palm, the list is 47 items long, and I have a separate list for work. :-/

I'm not sure why, but I've never been able to use my Palm's to-do lists successfully. I use them for things like shopping lists, and occasionally for "stuff I need to do today", but never on a regular basis. I don't know why it doesn't work for me! Maybe I should try again anyway.

It's tough keeping a to-do list. I freely admit that I'm inconsistent at it. When I do keep it up, it helps me a lot.

One of the things on my to-do list right now is to buy and read Help Yourself Get Everything Done : and Still Have Time to Play by Mark Forster, but I haven't gotten around to that yet. :-) My hope is, based on the recommendation from euziere, that it would help with my time-managment skills. So far it hasn't. ;-)

heehee! Okay, I've put it on my to-do list too. It looks like a potentially useful book. We'll see who organizes their life first!

oh yeah...

the worst, which happens to me nearly every time this occurs, is calling in sick. I'll be dreaming in bed that I've MADE the phone call, and then I'm SO relieved that it's done ... and then wake up, pretty sure I must not have done it, because in the dream it was 8:00, and the clock is still 6:00 or something ... I hate that!

Re: oh yeah...

Oh that's awful, because then you have to do it all over again!
