Bonjour - cellophane — LiveJournal
the story of an invisible girl
In Aix, and the trip is going great! This keyboard is a challenge tho....

I have very mixed feelings about hills. The trips down them have been FANTASTIC! But I'm not so thrilled about the uphill parts. Exhausting, I tell ya.

But the views are beautiful, and i'm having a blast. I have pics, but it doesn't look easy to load them. Oh well, when I get home I can do it for sure. Right now I have to meet the rest of the bikers for drinks (kir for me), then a lovely French dinner. Tomorroz, Tuscany!

Hey! An LJ-Friends post from Italy, and I just received an e-mail from my mother in Moscow--I'm having a very European day!

I really need to get my passport and join everyone else across the pond.

If you keep a journal, you might want to think about posting it up on crazyguyonabike.com - he hosts a lot of bike touring journals, and it's a nice, clean interface with just the right features. Looking forward to reading your journal.

Fear not the hills

Every bike journal I've read indicates that the riders get much stronger fairly quickly when they're riding every day, and the hills seem to flatten out. Headwinds are much more of a bane than hills, but where you are they may not be as big a deal as riding across the american plains or desert.

What's kir?

Glad to hear you are having a real good time!

Will you be moving into D&S's hottub when you get back?

Re: Kir?

Cassis in white wine. (Cassis is black currant liqueur; kir royal substitutes champagne.)

It's very good, though not quite as Provencal (need a cedille there, hmm) as pastis. It's also a great way to get rid of cheap or oxidised white wine. :)

Drop by for a visit sometime (when it's warm) and I'll serve some up.

Re: Kir?

I drank pastis almost every night in Southern France last year. I'll have to get the ingredients for some tonight now that you've reminded me.

Re: Kir?

Don't know where you are, but here (Toronto) it's still _way_ too cold for pastis. It's best when the glass sweats as you drink it...

Do you have a favourite brand? We had a taste-test a couple of years ago, but I can no longer positively recall what we preferred. (Though Ricard was one of the top two, and might have been the winner.)

Re: Kir?

I prefer Ricard, but Pastis 51 is also very good (but hard to get outside of France).

Re: Kir?

White wine with a dollop of crème de cassis. A Kir Royale uses Champagne.

Heading South

I knew you would just love those hills! You are going to have some great stories to tell... Go, girl!

I just began my move to Fort Lauderdale today. I rent the truck in an hour.

You're invading Europe and I'm invading Asia. If we could just join our powers, we might rule the world!

I've been watching the Giro d'Italia on OLN. I was thinking of you as they road through Tuscany on Saturday and Sunday.

Did you intersect with the race at all, or avoid it at all costs?
