Friday morning, he got up before me, before I had to be be up for work, and made me a delicious breakfast. He lured me out of bed with coffee, once it was made.
I really like the fact that he knows how I like my coffee. I like when he makes it for me. It feels so very coupley.
I came downstairs to find baked french toast casserole. Creme brule flavored, or something like that. It had peaches on it, it was all gooey and sugary and delicious. We couldn't eat nearly as much as he'd made, but I had two pieces anyway. It was really good, and it was nice to spend a leisurely birthday morning.
Then I went off to work, and he went back to sleep for awhile.
I had a really busy day at work, with a long (IPM) meeting and a Cleveland guy in town. My team took me to lunch though, which was nice.
Despite the busy day, or perhaps because of it, things slowed down drastically at 4pm. I left work somewhat early, figuring that it made no sense to start something new at 4:30 on a friday, especially a birthday friday.
I went home, then met up with some family. My sister lives quite near, but my parents live in Chicago. Somewhat last minute, they decided to visit for my birthday! It was unexpected, but welcome. Sis made arrangements for the four of us to have fondue. We met at The Melting Pot.
The meal was huge, even though we kept trying not to eat toooo much. (We failed) There was cheese fondue for start, then some salad, two kinds of meat fondue, then chocolate fondue for desert. And wine, and I had a chocolate martini. Yum, what a meal! It was a nice relaxed long meal and conversation, catching up with my parents who had just returned from Europe.
After dinner, we all came back to my house for a bit. Mom and Dad gave us a couple of souvenirs from their trip, and we talked a bit more. Eventually we all got very sleepy and they left, since my Sis was kindly putting them up for the night.
It worked out to be a really excellent birthday!
