But my back is (finally!) feeling much better, and the heat wave has broken. I took the bike out for a long ride on friday night, and we re-acquainted ourselves with one another. We both were a bit rusty and required a bit of coddling to get us going. But once we got warmed up, it was a lovely late-night ride.
This morning, I was able to ride to work! My sis generously volunteered to carry my ice skating stuff in her trunk, so I didn't have to worry about carting my junk on the back. I just wore a backpack with my laptop in it.
It was a great day for a ride. Warm, but not stiflingly hot. Just a bit overcast, but no rain. Quite lovely, really. And it was fun stomping into work with all my riding gear on. Then of course I pealed it all off and became semi-professional-looking.
After work, I went to DSC to skate. The ride there was quick and easy, and my sis had my skates waiting for me when I arrived. After skating, we went to The Moose for some food and conversation.
When the left The Moose, it was dark. I was on Woodward already, and I decided to enjoy a nice leisurely ride home along Woodward, instead of just hurrying back to the freeway. It was great! The temperature was still nice, the street was fairly empty all the way to Birmingham, and I hit all the green lights. I cruised happily along at 55 mph, and I really enjoyed myself.
Around Birmingham it got more crowded, and consequently less fun. Still nice though. At 12 Mile I turned back in the direction of my house, and I was soon pulling comfortably into my own driveway. Home, safe and sound!
I felt really good about my riding this time; I definitely feel improved. On friday when I went out, I stalled several times pulling away from traffic lights -- very stressful. I have trouble sometimes easing the thing into first gear. This evening I wasn't perfect or anything, but I didn't stall once!
I think I have a better feel for what it needs to find its way into first -- there are essentially two sweet spots, and if I feel it start pulling and completely release the clutch all the way, it will likely stall. But if I ease past both of them, it works okay. It's still a little touchy, but I'm getting a better feel for it. Sometimes it does just fine -- other times it needs to be babied a bit. (Just like me sometimes, I suppose...heehee)
Anyway, it was a good ride and a good evening. Work was very frustrating today, which makes the nicer things that came afterward all the better.
