IMHO, "loud pipes save lives" only if the rider isn't riding properly. If he's relying on being loud in order to be noticed, he needs to rethink his riding style.
If I ever have another bike, it'll be as quiet as possible. Electric would be ideal.

Many riders say, "I just blip the throttle and they can't HELP but notice me."

All motorcycles come with that feature. It's called a horn.

I also notice that most people that say, "I use loud pipes for safety" wear wildly unsafe riding gear.

This isn't a subject I generally debate, because most of the time I'm preaching to the choir. If I'm not, I'm talking with someone who doesn't want their opinion to have logic shed on it, so I don't often bother.
