:) Hermit crabs are not really hermits - they're very social, and LOVE company. Having one by himself probably means he's lonely...a buddy would be GREAT for him! Also - they need pools of water - small dishes would be okay, as long as they can climb into them. They need to replenish the small amount of water they carry in their shells, and so will get into the dishes of water periodically. One dish of Fresh water (DECHLORINATED!! Chlorine is poison to Hermies), and one dish of salt water. You can get both the dechlorinator and the right kind of salt at Pet Supplies, or Petco, Petsmart, what have you. Then put the sponge in one of the dishes of water. The sand should be sand-castle consistency, because they like to tunnel - dry sand isn't good, but neither is sopping wet sand.

I have Hermies, and have lost 3 out of 5 over a year - so I guess you could say, I've learned these things through trial and error! Here's a GREAT website for HC Care tips:
