the story of an invisible girl
I just finished registering for my new benefits this evening. I also took a long bath and shaved my legs. Mmmm, time to myself is quite appreciated. I didn't exercise, but it's still been nice.

We got out a bit early (aka 5pm) today, and even with a 6pm dinner I got back to my room and relaxed for a good long while. I had planned on going to the bar with the Europeans, but everybody seemed disorganized and undecided, so I ended up deciding the bath sounded nicer.

Anyway then I registered for benefits, and I have one of those fancy new HSA and high-deductible insurance plans. It should work out fine though, especially if I stay relatively healthy. That's the plan. In fact my plan for January is to stay VERY healthy indeed, because I am between insurance. Obviously I can activate my COBRA if it should become necessary for some catastrophe, but I'm hoping to just skate by uninsured for a month. Um, ski by.

Of course, right after I made that decision, I went skiing. I'm not all that good at being extra-careful for a month! I have been specifically avoiding running with scissors, at least. (I'm totally looking forward to February, because by then I'll be sooo jonesing for a good scissors run.)

Happily, no insurance was needed on my ski trip! I tweaked my knee some, which had me limping the rest of the night, but it just needed some rest and advil. It was much better by sunday, and by today it's just a wee bit stiff, not even hurting anymore.

It was a great weekend, really quite wonderful. Good weather, good snow, good friends. Who could ask for more? I'm so glad I got away from home and stopped stressing for a couple of days. It was a perfect preparation for this intense travel week I've been putting in.

One more day here in lovely New Hampshire, then I fly home saturday morning. It will be good to get back... I miss my kitties and my friends.

Depending on your previous company & their insurance COBRA can be expensive for you. If you do consider it b/4 the new insurance kicks in, you may want to first inquire how much it would cost you. If your new insurance starts in only one month, you may just want to continue being (more) careful in the meantime.

Oh I have no intention to use COBRA unless something catastrophic happens. Since it's just a month between coverages, and you have a month to make a decision to use it, I don't have to sign up unless i need it. It's nice to know it's there, but hopefully I can avoid it.

I agree about your COBRA coverage. Since you're not leaving until tomorrow, maybe you can meet the europeans in a bar tonight, unless they're flying out tonight.

I just came across this on ICanHasCheezeburger? Sure, it's an internet meme, but it's a Rennie picture.

See you at ConFusion.
