Jordan Cuts Hair - cellophane — LiveJournal
the story of an invisible girl
Jordan Cuts Hair
I sometimes think I might be a little flighty and crazy at times. Well I don't have anything on the woman who just did my hair this evening. The girl I'm used to using is on vacation this week, but I spontaneously decided that I simply HAD to have stripes in my hair before my trip to Gent on saturday. So I went with the shop's recommendation of a different girl who is good with color.

This girl....wow. Remember the movie Real Genius? Remember Jordan? "I never sleep, I don't know why. I had a roommate and I drove her nuts, I mean really nuts, they had to take her away in an ambulance and everything. But she's okay now, but she had to transfer to an easier school, but I don't know if that had anything to do with being my fault. But listen, if you ever need to talk or you need help studying just let me know, 'cause I'm just a couple doors down from you guys and I never sleep, okay?"

Imagine if Jordan had just had a cup of coffee then decided to go to beauty school. Yeah. Scary, huh? We were switching subjects so fast it made my brain spin, and I was exhausted by the end of the session. "You have the same hair as I do. You probably have more of it though. Oh you don't, you have my hair! You're my new best friend. Have you discovered Niamin(??)? No let me get it for you. It's expensive but it totally - so what color did you want, caramel? Oh blond, well warm or cold? How about caramel, I'll keep it bright, I'll mix two colors it will be perfect. ..... I just ate a mint for you. We can kiss later. No I'm just kidding, it's just that I had hummous. Let me check your color. With garlic toasts! Then I switched to carrots, so my blood sugar wouldn't crash, oh this is so pretty! You're going to love this."

I can't even possibly reproduce nor remember all of the things we (well she) talked about. She used to be goth when she had her hair platinum blond, and she went to City Club then Luna, but now she likes Boogie Fever, today is her third anniversary with her boyfriend, she had brain surgery so her scar totally beats my obnoxious cowlick, she went through a complicated story chain of friendships and roommates and bartenders that ended with her moving away from Royal Oak and now she lives in Eastpoint but it's only 15 miles.

I was out of breath trying to keep up, then I switched to accepting nods and amused smiles. She was dizzingly crazy, but entertaining!

"The name of my novel," she told me, "will be Can You Cut It Longer? Because, I get stuff like that all the time. They'll tell me they want it to look longer. And what am I supposed to do? It only goes in one direction you know. 'I like the length,' they'll tell me, so I'll be like, 'well what are you doing here?'"

I think I like my hair... It's nice having my stripey highlights again. The color is a little different than I was imagining, but highlights are always startling when you haven't had them in awhile. I have to get used to it. I won't know for sure until tomorrow when I play with it and style it on my own. I had to assure her that I loved it though, because -- well she loved it so much I could hardly disagree.

I let her blowdry and style it however she wanted, because she seemed to be having fun. She gave me all kinds of tips on how to blowdry it, where to brush it, and products she was using. I didn't have the heart to tell her I just let my hair airdry when I'm on my own. Sometimes I don't even bother to brush it.

I always thought Jordan was hot. Despite the whole hooking up with a 15 year old thing, which the movie made to be normal but is kinda skeevy when you think about.

I don't bother to brush my hair either :)

Do I remember Jordan? I'll let you decide.

The Spouse and I had a hyper-expressive cashier at the store this evening. On our way out the door I turned to The Spouse and commented, "I kept waiting for her to say, 'Oh! I knitted you a sweater ...'"

The Spouse grinned and nodded. "I know exactly what you mean."

She sounds a ton of fun, for about half an hour tops, then I'd need to go sit in a quiet darkened room... the hair looks good!

Last time I had mine cut, the stylist blow-dried it for me and styled it till it looked dead posh, all stiff with hairspray and stuff. I didn't have the heart to tell her that I'm strictly a wash'n'go girl, my hair gets towelled and combed and that's it.

Definitely remember Jordan Cochran. My friends used to call me her when I'd start bugging out too much. Also, back in December when I did an 80's set at IPM, that was my DJ name. ;)

before I read your entry I was trying to figure out who the girl was in the image because she looked completely familiar...

Hope you are doing well.
