I'm doing the same program she is and nowhere does it say you need to torture your body at that speed.

Rennie - you're learning how to run a 5k. You're not learning how to run it in 30 minutes right away. Cut it back! I'm on week 6, about to do a 25 minute run straight and I already know I'm going to run at 5mph the whole time, maybe bump it up to 5.5 for the last ten minutes. You're right - this program IS too hard if you try everything at 6 mph. Like the above poster said - distance first, then speed.

True true, I don't want to push too hard too quickly. I just like the idea of being able to maintain that speed, and I figured the gradual increases in time would get me there.... but yeah, I want challenge not actual torture. (:

I don't want to insult you, because i know historically you're more of an athlete than I am. But at the same time, if you slow down so you're not pushing so hard, you're probably less likely to get injured, and I know you are very opposed to injury.
