The Race was a success! I ran the whole 5k, with the exception of about a 60 second walk I took at the water table. I'm very proud of myself! There were several times when I really really wanted to stop running, but I didn't. I just kept going anyway.
The clock at the finish line said 33:40. Not being at the head of the crowd, I didn't cross the start line directly when the race began. This means I ran a little over 3 miles in a 33 little over 33 minutes... An 11 minute mile is 5.5 mph, which is not bad at all! I'm pleased with it at any rate.
Even more important than my personal triumph, my fundraising was a grand success! I surpassed my (what I thought was a) rather ambitious goal, and we raised around $1400 for breast cancer research! I never cease to be amazed at the coolness and generosity of my friends. Thanks to everone who chipped in.
Last night I had an early birthday celebration. My cats gave me the cool shirt featured in the photo. M gave me a really pretty pair of earrings, and an even cooler shirt to be featured later. I had a fancy Italian dinner with M and our friends S&R. We were originally going to see a movie too, but we ended up just taking our time over dinner instead. It was a lovely evening.
Today was the Race, then packing and relaxing around the house with my boy for awhile, and now I'm at the airport. Fly to Amsterdam, then train to Ghent. Hopefully a quiet and uneventful journey!
