Super Bowl

This evening I walked to a superbowl party at D and A's house. My knee, sore from skiing, grumbled about the idea but tolerated it relatively well. Practical as it may be to walk the only half mile, I was happy to accept a ride from from The Incredible Shrinking Librarian when the evening was through.

As I walked, I thought about who I would cheer for. The Steelers, of course. I mentally rehearsed my answers to the questions that would come next. "Why? Well, because a good friend of mine is a Steelers fan, and them winning would make him happy. And he has money on the game. Also, I don't know who else is playing."

I wasn't expecting the other question I got. "Did M tell you to cheer for Pittsburgh?" I laughed. No, actually I'm not sure who he's cheering for. He let me cheer for the Steelers in the earlier game though. When I sat down, I asked D which colors the Steelers were wearing, because I am a big Steelers fan and wanted to cheer for them. After a bit of mockery, I was told they had the yellow pants on. Good. Easy to spot.

"Why do you care, you don't know anything about football." Well that's not true. I don't actually care anything about football, but I know more about football now than I did last year. Last year I had the basic idea about touch downs and field goals. This year I've learned about downs, yards, and the Magic Line (the inventor of whom is an acquaintance of my father, and used to work for my old company).

I still don't know about safeties, so that was a little weird. But the 100 yard touchdown was really cool! What I watched of the game, which was admittedly not a whole lot, was entertaining. I also snacked and caught up with friends and watched commercials -- all in all a fun evening.
