the story of an invisible girl
The Future
M and I were going somewhere a few nights ago - he was driving my car, as I had just driven it the long drive home from work. The car in front of us was behaving erratically, and I warned him, "Be careful tonight. I don't know if it's a full moon or what, but the roads are weird tonight. Like that truck I told you about from my drive home, whose hood latch popped open and his hood suddenly covered his windshield at 70MPH."

"That's true, and that huge accident that closed M23."

"Exactly. Also I saw several cars pulled over for various reasons... there's just something in the air. Or maybe it's a full moon, or a blue moon, or something."

"Bluuueee moon," he sang.

"You saw me standing alone...." I sang next.

"The Cowboy Junkies do a good cover of that song."

"Oh, really? I don't think I've heard it."

"Yeah, I think I have it at home, I'll have to play it for you."

"Hm, I want to hear it now. Let's see if I can find it." I pulled out my phone and opened up YouTube. Then I reached for one of the many wires in my console.

"Are you low on battery?" he asked.

"No, I just want to plug my phone into the car. Listening to it on the phone is no way to live."

Seconds later, we were listening to the Cowboy Junkies cover Blue Moon through my car's sound system. Then we listened to a few other artists' versions, to compare.

Sometimes I love living in the future.

Old-time car dealers of the fancier brands used to talk about tossing a spare Model-T in the trunk. They were kidding, but still...

I wonder if you could fit a Lotus Elise or Exige in a Suburban?

i think the 78 Corolla that my sister & i shared for one summer would easily fit inside of my Ford Escape.

Just so cool, the interconnectivity of things.

I hope you had a safe and uneventful drive home.

This can't be the future, it looks nothing like Muppet Labs.
